We use a very deep Rubbermaid style enclosure for our laying chamber. We use about 18-24" of soil/sand mixture for them to lay in. We have had most females dig all the way to the bottom and a few only dig about 10" down. We had our Mellers Chameleons only dig about 3 inches into the soil and basically just cover the eggs with leaves. So it all depends on the animal but 10" or more will usually suffice without any problems.
