Can rubbermaid containers be heated and reshaped with a heat gun? I want to mold one to more of a pond shape around the top so I can recess it in a plywood cutout for an indoor turtle enclosure.

First of all: I don't know the answer to your question. But...
I have a goldfish pond outside which is lined with a very heavy plastic material specifically made for ponds. You can buy it at many plant nurseries. Get the heaviest grade they carry and you should be just fine. It is very easy to work with and holds up for years, even outdoors. Good luck. Duffy
I have experimented with using a heat gun to slope the floors of various plastic containers for drainage purposes. My results have not been very good, although I've not tried that hard.
They're cheap enough to experiment on. Let us know how you do.
Many modern plastic such as polyethelene and polypropelene are notoriously difficult to work with. If you are going to try, these guys can help.
