I'm curious about the comparative values of various foods for my tiger sal and, now, a toad (likely a Woodhouse) that I seem to have rescued.
The easiest foods for me to get are crickets, giant Canadian earthworms, and mealworms (but I read that mealworms aren't good for toads).
I feed the crickets Nature Zone Total Cricket Bites Total Gutoad.. (I don't raise them, I buy a couple dozen at a time.)
How nutrious are these different things?
Also, on web sites, I see ads for red worms (Eisenia fetida), European nightcrawlers and black worms.
Are any of these worms as good or better than the giant earthworms?
The worms I get at the bait shop are so big that I have to cut them up. And sometimes the pieces quit wiggling before the toad eats them so then he ignores them.
I try to vary their diets, and I cut the heads off the mealworms before giving them to the salamander. I haven't offered the toad any mealworms.
Appreciate any information!
