Axanthic Question

EmberBall Dec 28, 2003 02:45 PM

It seems earlier this year, and in late 2002, every other Classified ad had an Axanthic for sale, usually from an unproven line. While I have not seen any for sale lately, I am just wondering if any have proved out, or, after breeding back offspring from the original animal to the original animal, not proven to be genetic. I guess my question is: Has anyone proven out one way or another an Axanthic that they bought as an unproven line?

Dayve,
As far as I have heard, no one has proven any more lines of axanthic to be genetic. However, I am working with hets from Jerad Horensteins line, and I have a pair who are breeding like crazy. I sure hope his line proves out...
I will let everyone know whats happens if I get some eggs.

Graziani had an imported male that failed to prove a year or two ago. I had a "het" male which Greg had properly represented as from an unproven line. He let me know that the line failed to prove before my “het’s” 3 daughters where fully grown and even went the extra mile to offer a rebate on future purchases as compensation. These are just the risks you take attempting to prove a new line but I chose to give it a try for the significant savings of an unproven line.

Thanks for the replies, and sorry your "hets" did not work out! I think the reason I originally asked the question, or at least part of the reason, was the fact that a year or so ago, Axanthics were in the $7,000 range, and it seemed that every person that had a light brown or low color snake thought it must be a $7000 snake Now that the prices of Axanthics has come down, I just do not see the "unproven" Axanthics for sale....coincidence?? I am waiting for the next "unproven" wave of Balls.....Cinnimon Pastels??Ghosts??Desert Ghosts??

Dave---PS, I would still like to see someone prove out a new line.

A related question sort of: The three lines of Axanthic, anyone think individual lines to be suited better to one project or another? ie-Joliff line is better for DH project A while Sutherland line looks like a better fit for DH project B....

I hope the lower prices of proven axanthics doesn't discourage people from working to prove new lines. Maybe it's just that they don't bother to try to sell unproven lines now but are still working with them. More lines should mean more genetic diversity and the chance at even better combinations than are possible now (most of which we haven't even seen yet). Should be interesting to start seeing some of the new combinations with the existing axanthics and perhaps also some new lines in the next few years!!
