Femoral pores sticking out ?

merlin7676 Dec 28, 2003 04:38 PM

Hi there..I have a 1:1 ratio of leopard geckos..while cleaning out the tank today, I noticed that instead of the males pores being "innies" they are "outties" for lack of a better description. I can't seem to find anything in my books or online about this. Is it normal? Or is it something I should be worried about? Thank you

Yes, this is normal. I believe-I am a mere amature myself- that you are seeing s waxy substance that is protruding from the males pores. Not something that you can wipe off, but little whitish crud sticking out of the pores. My male has this too. I think that it happens when hormones change- his ir her. As long as he doesn't have a swollen or prolapsed hemipene, hes fine...

I believe this is pretty common in males, I know I have a few that have ‘outties’ like you described. It’s a build up of the wax-like substance they use to mark their territory. I have never read that it is a bad thing. One thing to look out for would be red or swollen pores, other than that I think your ok. You might try changing his substrate; this usually causes my males to do a bit of butt dragging in their cage. I wouldn’t try to remove it by rubbing the pores, because there is no real need to. Hope this helps, and good luck!
