introducing male to female

carterelli Dec 28, 2003 04:43 PM

Is it safe to keep a male and female together when its not mating season, or should they be kept seperate most of the year. Also, is it a problem if the snakes are VERY different in size. I'm not sure how old my male is, but he's about twice the size of my female. The female is about 3 years old. How would I introduce them, or at this point should I just keep them separated?
not sure if it matters, but he is a normal phase, and she is an anerythristic A that is heterozygous for ghost. What type of offspring would be expected?

I would recommend keeping all animals seperate. That way you can keep track better of who sheds, eats, regurges (if it happens), etc. Also, if one gets sick, its very possible for the other to get sick as well if kept together.

If both animals are old enough to breed, then size difference doesn't matter at all IMO. Most male corns get larger than females in general.

After brumation, start feeding the snakes as normal after you start warming them up again. When the female has her post brumation shed, intro her to the male.

For your last question, it depends if the male is het for traits similar to your female. If he is a normal that is not het for anything, then all the babies will be normals, but het. for Anery A like the mother.

Good Luck
