How big do gerbils get (in grams)?

jimburke27 Dec 28, 2003 05:42 PM

Hello. At this point, I have bred mice for 2 years and rats for one year. I am looking to breed a rodent that reaches 90-100 grams as full grown adults. I know that mice tend to reach 40 grams or so and rats reach 120-250 grams. I wonder if anyone can answer my questions:

1)How many grams does a typical pinkie gerbil weigh?
2)How many grams do hopper gerbils weigh?
3)How many grams do small adult gerbils weigh?
4)How many grams do large adult gerbils weigh?

If you know the answers to these questions, please reply.

Rats can get alot bigger than 250 grams, my two males are both over 500 grams. I doubt gerbils get over 200 grams though but I could be wrong.

I had a pet rat many moons ago that got to 3 pounds. He was a tank. I regularly have males get well over a pound and usually pushing 2#s. Maybe its the water?
