How to get him back on F/T

utpike Dec 28, 2003 06:36 PM

I've had a cal king for about 4 months. he refused food for over 4 weeks when i first got him so i tried throughing an anole in there, he nailed it right away. knowing that he wasn't brumating or anything i tried to scent pinkies with anoles, and he went back to ignoring them. eventually i gave in and threw more anoles in there. he's been mostly eating those and he has taken 2 live mice as well. well now knowing a lot more than i used to, i want to get him back to frozen/t. anyone have suggestions. just let him starve for a while, if he gets hungry enough he'll take a dead one? also, what is the opinion on feeding them anoles? he wasn't very good at killing his first 2 and they got a bite on him but it barely left a mark. i know mice are a different story. if the possibility of anoles hurting them is small then i might just leave on those, they are really cheap around here.

Try and scent a frozen thawed with an Anole. Dont just rub the Anole on the mouse but euthanize it and lay some skin or innards on the mouse head. The King should go for it. Do this for a few feedings getting him used to dead prey then try doing one scented small mouse and one non-scented. If he takes them both next time offer only non scented dead mice.
