Alright, I don't have any sort of temperature gauge for my kingsnake's tank, but I'm going to get one tomorrow. I am pretty sure my tank is too cold for my kingsnake, but he hasn't had problems yet. I do have one of those cobra heat mat things. I don't want to get a light, because it's way too much of a hassle for me. Is there any heat rock i can get that i can cover with cloth or something so it's safe for my snake, or what should I do?

hey i recently got a new king snake too a cali king hmm about the heat i would suggest gettin some sort of a thermomater or somethin to read the temp...a heat rock, i heard can be really bad for snakes because it is just one spot that it getting constantly heated up and if the snake sits on it for too long it can burn it. Lights arent too much of a hassle i have both my corn and king on a timer for the light so it is pretty easy.
U already have a heat mat right? i had those on both my tanks but now my corn doesnt need it cuz i moved her to a warmer part of the house..i still keep it on at night so she has a warmer spot to go

I would suggest checkin the temps before anything, but u will probably need a light and for that i just suggest buying a timer for it so u dont have to worry about it.
Just my suggestions and opinion

Thanx for the suggestions. I think Cali kings are so pretty! That's what I have too, it's spotted though and i can't figure out what it is cuz the top is white with black spots, but its belly turns yellow with brown spots. Maybe mine's just one of a kind!
