Are these tapeworms from Anaconda?

dannygood1 Dec 29, 2003 02:13 AM

Pretty lousy pics, but the best my Digital Blue QX3 $40 scope could do. At 10x. Found these in my Anacondas water. About a thimble full of them. They are white/translucent. Could not find any obvious heads (scolex if I remember). They are obviously flat like a ribbon, but not obviously segmented, at least could not see many obvious segments. Any ideas? Thanks.

I Had the same thing happen with my female green when I first brought her home. It freaked me out so I called the vet. When I brought her in, i took a sample of those with me. The vet said they were nothing, gave AK a dewormer anyway, and I did'nt see anymore until about two months ago, and it was only once. Not sure exactly what they are, but my snake had the same thing. DFR, do you know the answer to this ???

Thanks for the info. Nice to know I'm not the only one who has seen these. I'm planning on giving it "Tape Worm Tabs" (Praziquantel) from a company called Trade Winds. I have the tablets, just waiting to hear responses here, such as yours, thank-you.

` They look like tapeworms to me. Praziquantel is what most folks are using for them. I haven't had any contact with wild caught snakes, or snakes in contact with them for years, on purpose. So, I don't have much current experience with parasites, thank goodness. I do know that Praziquantel makes the worm's skin dissolve, so you're not likely to see them eliminated in the stool.
