has anyone know do white throats breed with savnnahs where they are from..
There are many differences between the 2 that make them like night to day. As a matter of fact in the wild the savannah (bosc) is food for the albig (whitethroat) when found in the same areas. The albig is a large species that can exceed 7ft where as the bosc is a medium sized species that could exceed 4 ft full grown. Someone showed a pic in the classifieds of an albig (a cape banded WT) mounted on a bosc, it was dominance behavior not mating behavior, but it was labeled as attempting to mate.
This is my female albig at 23 months old and over 6ft.
Hi, Shvar. The WT in that photo is my male. It was copulating with the savannah in that photo. It hasnt attempted anything even similiar with my female WT. When mine are interacting they hiss, puff and tail whip, nod and pull each other of the basking area or other areas by clinging to each other and tugging. Even when their basking one on top of each other or side by side they dont look like theyre copulating.
He is merely showing that fat little bosc whos the boss. Its all about whos more dominant, maybe your female WT is more dominant, put them all together and see. After all male mount females, females mount males, f-f, m-m etc etc. Its not about sex or reproduction its property and stuff, or rather who owns all the stuff.
I couldve sworn they were mating, but who knows . I wish I had saved that picture. Just wondering the possibilities that it could actually happen. I mean would it be completely impossible for a male albig to be attracted to a cycling and ready female bosc.Would something come out of it, maybe, maybe not, but them hooking up doesnt seem to me to be so far fetched. If it was a prasinus and an albig maybe not,but boscs are pretty similiar to albigs even though they arent the same species.
Very nice!!!
Tame?

Hi,
these two species do not interbreed, but there are places in Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and S. Sudan where these animals can be found in close proximity to one another, in similar habitats...see my paper in Journal of Biogeography, 2002, 29:1643-1701 for details.
cheers,
