Damaged Tail on Juv. Leopard ????

D Goudie Dec 29, 2003 12:00 PM

Hi Guys;

I don't hang out in this forum much, am primarily into snakes........... howEVER...... my sister-in-law called me today to tell me 1 of her 3 leopards has part of it's tail missing. She houses 3 females (2 adults & 1 juvenille) in a 27 gal. aquarium, they all get fed equally, their feeding is always supervised BUT when she looked in the cage this morning the juv. has part of it's tail missing.

I made soothin noises to tell her it WOULD regenerate & told her to remove the injured gecko, clean any substrate off the wound, place it in a seperate cage on white paper towel for now until I get a chance to have a look at it.

I'm sure there's other things she could be doing as well, any other advice?? feel free to pass it on......

thanx & have a great new year

Dean

Make sure it stays clean, and you could even apply some neosporin. You may also want to limit handling (other than to treat her) so you don't stress her out further, and keep her quarantined if you think one of the adults bit her. If the adults are much bigger than the juvie, it's possible that one or both may be bullying the young'un. Some recommend not housing geckos of vastly different sizes in the same tank. How long has this juvie been with the adults?
