Anaconda "morphs"...

tc@screamdreams Dec 29, 2003 01:26 PM

Alright, let me see if I got this straight...from the sound of a recent ad posted in the Boas section, if you cross a Yellow x Green Anaconda you get a NEW MORPH...may I ask everybody's take on this???

When you cross a Green and a Yellow all you get is a cross. A morph is like an albino or some other inheritable(sp?) trait. While we are on the subject has anyone here seen the blue Green anacondas?

Exactly...I wanted to be careful on how I worded my post because I didn't want to offend anyone party that may be involved...but I've had a change of heart Advertising a cross and tossing in the "morph" word/phrase for whatever reason, whether it's to get more money for the animal itself or just a "sales pitch", IMHO it proves just how desperate for knowledge some vendors are in this hobby...and I'd hate to see the BS roll over into the Anaconda market. I've worked with alot of species, and yes, I am way into the P. regius craze, so I am very familiar with true morphs, their genetics, etc...so actually my original post should have been a little less vague. Bottom line, it rubbed me the wrong way.

I think I've seen the Blue Green. Remember the Albino??? Nice animal!!

hehehe or 'SHOW ME THE MONEY'!!

Yellow anacondas and green anacondas inter-breed in the wild.
Their ranges overlap.

I've read about an adult green anaconda that was bred to
another green and there were yellow anacondas in the litter
because one of them must have been a cross.

I understand that there is a whole reptile breeding industry
with reptile shows and everything, but I find the whole
boa 'morph' thing pathetic. The only thing I like about the
sneaky, underhanded way that boa mixes are marketed and sold is
all the ridiculous names that they use...

Thanks,
tc
