Het Ghosts and Clear Sheds

RandyRemington Dec 29, 2003 02:40 PM

A while back someone posted about their HETEROZYGOUS ghost having clear sheds like homozygous ghosts are supposed to.

I recently picked up my first het and it was cleaning day at the breeder’s and we looked through several het ghost cages and found most had normal dark pigment in the shed but he had one het that shed nearly clear. I also noticed that my het and most of his other hets where pretty nice bright snakes (mine had a dark pigment shed in the cage though). I suppose either or both of these characteristics could be due to the quality of normals bred into the ghost line over the years but I'm wondering if ghost could be another one of these "not always as recessive as you would think" mutations where hets SOMETIMES show markers. Anyone who works with lots of het ghosts care to comment?

Thanks!

My Het. for hypo ball pythons don't have clear sheds and I have proven them out, they are nerd line orange hypo's.

If it is a hypo, it will shed clear. If its het hypo, it WILL NOT shed clear.

Maybe the two hets I've heard of that shed clear are just anomalies and not something you would expect to see sporadically in large groups of het ghosts. Just out of curiosity, how many hets have the last two posters worked with?
