Can anyone explain this?

JonV Dec 29, 2003 04:38 PM

My tegu has two setups in which he lives, one at college and one at home. At home there is only one light emitting heat source, a Reptisun UVB. At college, there is a 4' Fluorescent, and two light emitting Hagen Neodinium bulbs (amongst other heat sources).

Now, when he is at home he sits and basks until the late hours of the afternoon. When I get back to college where there is more lighting, however, he goes to bed by noon.

His hidebox at college is on the warm side of the cage, since that is where he would always sleep. Could it be that the lights are too bright for him, or could it be that he is warm enough in his hidebox so he doesn't even need to sunbathe?

I'd like him to stay out a little more at college like he does at hom so people can see him. Any thoughts?

My thoughts would be that he stays out longer at home because it takes him longer to get as warm as he wants to be with the fewer heat sources. Have you checked the temps on the basking spots on both cages? Both my tegus have two basking spots. One that's right around 110 F and one thats right around 120 F. Try something like that. I know that others will have further advice for you as well.
