around Sanderson, Texas being built starting in the first part of 2004 at around a tune of $4.8 million ?...this has got me that it is this expensive to build a station especially if it is like the ones on 118 and 385 ?....Maybe the site of 33 acres is some of the expense ?.....no way ! And 465 days till completion ?......has anybody else seen this in the news ? I just cannot see the $4.8 milion part of it.

Chambo,
Yes, I have read about the Border Patrol preparing to build a new station just on the West side of Sanderson. This is NOT just a "checkpoint" station like the ones they have on 118 & 385, this will be a much larger base station, designed to house their offices, vehicles, supplies, and of course, probably some holding cells. 4.8 million does sound to expensive, but after 9-11, Much more tax monies have been allocatted to National Security and not just in Texas. I have read about this project in the local Sanderson paper, and it will allow up to 60 Border Patrol Personnel to work there, a benefit to the local economy there. It does seem that it could be done for less than the price tag that is being stated, but thats government for you..........JF

buying sandwiches and coffee at the gas stops ? LOL !@....I heard that this station will have on site fuel pumps for the patrol vehicles....so it would not help your town in that aspect. I heard that they will have multi vending machines.....so maybe nay on the other gas stations selling that stuff. Your local taxes will probably go up. I mean who pays for the new water lines, sewers, electricity usage and installation for all of this. Maybe the Gov. ? maybe in taxes on you all ?...I don't know. Maybe a boost to our bud in the motel bussiness ? Maybe. At the same time, maybe home values will take a dive with an operation this big in a town with lower than 800 population. Only time will tell. And maybe you will get your fast food places in that town that you are SO accustom to. That would save you time and gas money of having to drive to Fort Stockton every few days in order to get your fix of fast food !
HA !...
