Can I put a 26g female with 2 50g females?

calgecko Dec 29, 2003 09:16 PM

I currently have 2 females, each about 50-55g, and I'm looking at a Rainwater Albino on www.hisss.net .. it's only 26g though.... but it looks great, and the price is right.

First off.. anyone ever buy from there? Should I avoid them, or are they OK?
Should it be safe to put a leo that's half the weight in with 2 females?

Also, since it's a 'breeder', do I still need to do the 'quarantine' process? I don't have a 2nd tank to keep a leo in for 3 months (or whatever the quarantine timeframe is).. I've had my 2 leos now for over a year, and they're very healthy.. very docile too..

Thanks!

she has excelent animals at excelent prices!!!!
a 26 gram animal is still a bit too small to put in with 2 50 gramers... i would say at least wait til the gecko is 40-45 grams before keeping her in their with the big girls.
now while i know kelli and her set ups and husbandry and have several animals and trust her to no end... ANY animal from ANY source needs to be quaranteened for a minimum 60 days.... it just good husbandry practice no matter where the animal comes from big breeder, large breeder broker or pet store... quarenteen is just not to make sure the animal is healthy but also a settling in period as well
you cant go wrong with kelli and good luck!!!!

Kelli is also a frequent poster on this forum. You can scan for her handle, KelliH, if you want to know what she has to say. One thing's for sure, she's got some *beautiful* animals.

Kelli has an excellent reputation, but quarantine is essential with any animal no matter how good your source is. I use a minimum of three months IF the animal looks perfectly healthy and is from a reputable source.

You can either buy another tank of buy a sweater box and heat it with a human heat pad...you can get a sweater box for about $2.50 on sale at Target and the heat pad should run $10-$15. Make sure to put a towel or grid under the heat pad so it does not singe surface it is resting on. It's good to have at least one quarantine setup anyway, if one of your animals ever seems to be losing weight yyou can seperate it to see if it is just losing comepetion for food or is sick or whatever.

In three months the gecko should be big enough to put in with the other girls, and you'll be golden!
