are you sure the ball python is 8 months old? it looks smal in the pic.
Anyway, handle him after about a week and half from now. Hold him for about 30mins each handling until you have him more. Limit your handlings to about 2 times a week. You can begin to "de-head shy" him by touching his head everyso often when you handle him. About a couple months of this you will have a very docile ball. Do not handle when he starts to go in shed, wait 2 days after feeding to handle him.
As far as weighing and measuring, my vet does it free of charge. I would suggest contacting your reptile vet and asking if you could bring it over for a weighing.
Wait until you BP has ate atleast 4 times (all in a row, one week after the other) until you start consistantly handling it. Keep it in a low traffic area, and only get into the cage to change the watter, and spot clean (if it goes to the bathroom) otherwise just leave it alone...after it has ate successfully for you 4 times, then begin handling it, do not handle atleast 2 days before you feed, 3 days after you feed, and do not handle while in shed (it does not hurt the snake, but the snake can not see you and it will easily stress out.)
