Blisters? What have I done Wrong??? (information needed)

AggieCS_31 Dec 29, 2003 11:01 PM

Recently while playing with my BP i noticed that blisters had started coming up on his belly. I did some research and it said it was from either bacteria or a constantly wet substrate. I clean both my cage carpet and cage once a week (bleach on cage carpet and flukers in the cage) and everytime there is a mess I take him out and clean it on the spot. I only mist the cage 2 or 3 times a week and only when i have the heat lamps on so it evaporates quickly. Have I done something wrong? I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow, but I can tell he's unhappy so if anyone knows of something i can do for him now it would be appreciated. Also, any input on this matter would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I would put him on clean newsprint right away. Take out all cage decor and waterdish, then give him a good coat of Neosporin along his belly.

Good luck with him, I'm sure he will be just fine.

Oops, I would also double check the temps along the bottom of the entire tank.

Thanks for the input. My ground temp says 88(it's 1am here). Would that cause this problem? Ive never really worried about his ground temp too much. I'm getting ready to change his carpet now. Thanks again. Any other input would be great.

Are you rinsing off the bottom of the cage throughoutly after using bleach and that Flukers stuff? Residue from harsh cleaners could be 'burning' his belly scales as well.
