Question about Gentle Touch??????

latin1956 Dec 30, 2003 09:04 AM

I have been reading about Gentle Touch. I used to breed my own mice but the smell is just to strong no matter how often the cages get cleaned. I want to breed mice and rats just a few colonies for my Hondurans, and I will have to do it inside the house. But I don't want to deal with the smell. According to the info on the product is says that the odors are virtually eliminated. I would like to hear from all of you fellow breeders if you used the product and how good is it.

Thank you in advance
Tom

Funny! It's too early in the morning and not enough coffee and I thought you were referring to something called "Theraputic Touch" to heal and calm people and animals, not a bedding .

Anyways, I think probably the best place to ask this question is in the Feeder Food Discussion group, since most in there breed their own mice and rats for food. Have you tried vanilla in their water by chance to lower the smell?

Good luck.

That's why she's sillygirl! 1 teaspoon of vanilla or vinegar in a gallon of water is supposed to break down the urine before it becomes ammonia and therefore cut down on smell. Vanilla can clog auto watering systems so if you have one try the vinegar. If you are going to breed your own definately check out the Feeder forum. It's great for getting more info, and it helped me a lot.

Ammonia isn't what makes mice smell, it's the male mouse that has a distinct musk scent to their urine, nothing to do with ammonia. Male rats don't have this musk in their urine at all.
