I just wanted to remind everyone that fostering turtles can be an option in many areas of the country. Local humane organizations, municipal shelters, and reptile rescues and herp societies may accept foster homes, particularly over the winter. This can be a chance for you to see if a turtle is for you, without the life-time commitment. Check to see if your local group could use some help. I recently had need to contact a humane organization while visiting another state, and was disappointed that they had no turtle experience, and no regs in place for holding or placing turtles.
