Red Tail Bloated?

ee Dec 30, 2003 12:09 PM

I have an 03' Het albino Red Tail that has been sucking down food since I got her. She is already almost 3' and feeds on F/T adult Jumbo mice whenever offered(Usually every 5-7days). I fed her and others yesterday and she actually was slow to eat? She took it after a few moments and today she looks like she ate a Med rat instead of a mouse. I picked her up and she is gasy and had some gasy fumes I guess expell from her mouth. She is otherwise 100% healthy and has had no problems in the past whatsoever. Any suggestions or insight, the others are fine and everyone is kept by the book in some racks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Well, you can start out by not feeding it such a large meal. But that's been done... now, you should leave it alone and not handle it after the meal and pray that it won't regurge on you. Did you check the temp to make sure that it's not too hot?

She's just about 3 foot. She is as thick as a ball python, I don't think a large mouse is to large for her! Her temp has not moved except for her nighttime drops temp has been constant. Maybe it was just a bad mouse

If that's the case, best of luck. When did she last deficate?

2 Days ago. She's still the same size today. I guess this is one I will have to wait out.
Thanks

Even though your animal defecated a few days ago you may want to wait until another defecation occurs before feeding again. There may still be more meals that have to pass which may be why it's bloated. Sometimes overfeeding can cause bloatedness from the presence of gasses produced by bacteria from an excess of decaying (not digesting) matter. Missing a meal or two may give the digestive tract a chance to rest and certainly should do no harm.
