Floating Rock

RavonTUS Dec 30, 2003 03:08 PM

Greetings,

I hope you like this picture of my floating rock. I made it myself by cooking it in the oven. Yes, really...

I took a piece of plexiglass, about 4"x12" long, and put it on top of a 4"x4" wooden block. I then pre-heated the oven to about 325. I placed the plexiglass across the block so that it would melt into an upside down "U". After 5 minutes of baking it was done. I let it cool for an hour before testing it.

Hey, I think it looks great.

I just got rid of my floating rock. My poor RES had such a hard time getting on it, even with a stepping rock, that he would fall off constantly and it would always move around. I got a real stepping rock and put it in the tank. He seems to be much happier.

Cool rock, though!

By saying a "real stepping rock", I mean a true rock - one that does not float when put in the water. This would be a rock sinks when put in water, that is in the shape of steps, so the turtle can climb to his basking area...hence, a real stepping rock. As opposed to a floating rock - one that "floats" when put in water.
