Pic of rescue....

girliegirl Jun 04, 2003 09:33 AM

This is Albert, actually Prince Albert. Sorry the picture isn't bigger. This is when I first got him (Wednesday, 5/28) from the pet store, he was warming up for a feed. He is an excellent eater too! I got him baby supers over the weekend (as eve suggested) and they didn't last long. You can still see all his bones, but at least his belly is full. The more he eats, the more colors show up on his back and the more active he is. He now sleeps very little during the day and runs around his tank. He is going to be a handsome guy.

Thank you for all the advice and tips on this guy.

Carrie

when they eat. Keep his temps nice and warm to, 100- 105 basking, and 85-90 in the rest of tank that helps him to keep eating well ! cant tell color from pic, almost looks like a bicinctores, by the longer snout and seems to be brownish in pic, but I can't tell, post another when ya get a chance Carrie, so we can see his coloring. Lots of luck with your new friend, he sounds as if he went to the right place to live. LOL :0) Eve

Thank you. I will try and take some better pics tonight. His colors look like green and gold stripes on his back. They are still faint though. His feet and toes are yellow too. My husband said he will be as fat/healthy as my beardies w/me feeding him. I figure since we don't have any human children, my reptiles are GREAT substitute children!

This pic is a little better, but not much bigger. I misjudged size when I cropped the photo. Sorry.

Thanks again!

Green and gold , now it does not sound like bicinctores, he would be more brownish with maybe goldish or lighter brownish, we will see when ya get alittle closer or bigger shots of him ! Fat as the beardie, LOL yeah, I have alot of fat lizards too, especially my beardie, :0) And treating them like kids I know what ya mean, I have human kids but they are grown, with their own, I started quite young, so now I too have just alot of critter kids !!! LESS TROUBLE LOL Have a good one, and don't forget the pics Eve

...but I think I'm the one blessed. I bring him to work w/me so I can keep an eye on him and feed him twice a day. I stare at him constantly (worried really). He'll be sleeping and then open his eyes to find me looking at him (scary sight LOL) and then he'll walk over to the glass and cock his head to the side. As if he's saying "Whatcha lookin' at lady?". He's soooo cute!! Thank you again.

LOL...Just kidding.

Why the name "Prince Albert?" Do a search on Prince Albert, and you'll see what I mean.

...my mom named him after the tabacco tins. She collects old/antique tins and just happened to buy one when I told her I needed a name for the little guy. I also thought of the piercing prince albert, but not too many people know unless they are into body piercing.

MY story is that he is a prince charming in desguise. Right now he is the frog (Albert), but w/lots of little kisses he will turn into a prince charming (Prince Albert). he, he.

What search engine?? I used msn and google and lots of Canada came up.

That's got to hurt, especially when it starts to rust.

Did the pet store realize he was going downhill and give him to you? If so, that's a rescue. If you PAID for him, to the pet store that's a SALE, and they just might get more collareds in the future which will also need "rescuing."

Lets only help the animals that are free. She paid for it, so she didn't really rescue it.... No matter how she got it, she saved its life, that's a rescure.

I'm thinking of more than just the individual lizard here. The message the pet store gets is that they can treat their animals like crap and STILL turn a profit, so why bother ensuring they get the care they deserve?

If you can sleep well comforted by the fact that you saved ONE animal's life, but potentially killed a dozen more, fine.

It should be helped, if we all looked the other way, it would certainly be a shamefully sad world to live in ! I have rescued 3d degree burned uromastyx, and have paid to do it,JUST BECAUSE it NEEDED a home and LOve and Care to get back to the orginal healthy state it was in before some person with NO compassion mistreated it ! I understand Chris you also care and love your animals and the point your making is they won't sell anymore sick ones if no one buys them. BUT they always will because alot of places are just out to make a buck, and don't care about the health of the animal, So I feel very Blessed as one of those people who has been given a special heart for the critters. I comment You for RECUSING the collared ! Eve
