Question for Parazap users

Melle Dec 30, 2003 03:40 PM

Hello,
I just got some of the stuff for christmas, and I was wondering, is there any easier, alternative ways to administer it than having to make the tea and give it to them in the eyedropper? I've heard good things about this product, but a couple of my leos will refuse to open their mouths and its real hard to get them to, plus it stresses them out sitting there trying to pry their mouths open so it doesnt hurt them. Just wondering, if theres any easier way. thanks

I haven't used this, so I don't know anything about its consistency or anything, but is it something you could just drop on the nose and let them lick it off? The only things I've tried this with are yogurt and baby food, which are both pretty thick, though it seems like some people have suggested doing the same thing with Pedialyte. Though if you're giving a big dose, this seems pretty impractical.

The consistency is liquidy, and I tried the drop on the nose thing, but they were little brats and just refused to lick the drops off their noses before they rolled off :P . and no, you dont give much. the package says 3cc at a time for an adult beardie, so i just give them about a half cc or so. The package also says that they will *know* its good for them by the smell or something, and most reptiles will lick it right up. Not mine of course! maybe after they get used to it it will get easier.

To clarify what i meant, i guess just is there any other way to administer it while still being effective, like dusting their food with it or adding it into their water instead or something.

I've never used Parazap, but it shouldn't be any different from having to administer real medicine. You want to give it to them directly instead of putting it in their food. It allows for a more precise dosage.

Pick up your leo, keep a firm grip around his body, and then just put a drop or two on the side of his mouth. Continue doing that as he licks up the drops. It's kind of scary if you're nervous about handling squirmy leos, but after awhile, you get used to it. You might want to hold him over his tank so you can put him back down in case he gets out of your control. Also make sure you've got a towel handy to wipe up any messes including poopy ones.

Yeah, I have administered medicine lots of times to leos. and a couple years ago i had willingly bought a sick adult patternless and had to give him meds that way. I know its not hard to do but its got to stress out a couple of my squirmier geckos. and parazap says to give it 5 days in a row every month to prevent the parasites. I'm just lookin for a little less stressful way. BUT, if the eyedropper is the only way, then the little brats are gonna have to get used to it

Thanks!
