I just bought my b/f a red-tailed boa for christmas... however we think that it may not be one after all, even though the pet store said it was... how old must the snake be before its "red tail" is visible.... she is nearly 3 1/2 ft long.

I'll take a picture with my digital camera within the next few days and post it/ send it to you.
Some red tailed boas (or Boa Constrictor Imperators) have very little red on their tail. You may have one that does not have a lot of red and never will. If is is 3.5 feet long, I don't think it will ever have a bright red tail like some BCC's.
Could the reason that the snake having little to none red on its tail be b/c she's a female??? I know in other animal species the coloring is much more vivid and colorful on males than females???
