it could be time for she-gor

skippy Dec 30, 2003 03:56 PM

she's been digging a lot lately and today she's been sitting in a hole all day. I just looked in there and thought i could see an egg. I didn't want to disturb her, so I'm just gonna leave her be for now. But now I need to know... what is vermiculite? I know its what I need to put the eggs in, but what is it, and where do I find it? I should have asked earlier.

p.s. i just looked again and i'm sure of it, there are eggs.

Vermiculite is found in garden centers. Many herpers have quit using it because some of it has been found to contain asbestos. It's up to you whether or not you want to use it. Personally, I have been using perlite which is also found in garden centers. The perlite keeps the eggs from getting wet better but still holds the moisture. The only drawback with it is that you have to make sure to remove it from the hatchling if it sticks to egg sack. To avoid this I just put the egg on moist paper towels once it pips and then the baby never comes into contact with the perlite.

Good luck, let us know the count!
