Mold now Mushrooms....

DKiM128 Dec 30, 2003 06:25 PM

I've been noticing many different changes in my vivarium lately. I had, had problems with the whitish/green mold, and people have told me it was natural for a tank when you begin it.

Lately I've been noticing a yellowish fuzzy mold that looks abesolutely disgusting. I have quaritine the frogs in the tank until I could figure out what it was. But today, I've noticed bunches of mushrooms coming out near the mold. Should I be extremely worried? I've heard mushrooms were a good things in tank, but all this molding and changes are making me think a little. This is the only tank that has been changing like this.

I'm thinking it is the wood that I got for it, but its foamed into my background so I would have to redo the whole tank.

Thanks in advance
Daniel

What you have seen and thought was mold may have just been the mycelium to which the fruiting bodies (mushrooms) you now have belong. Mushrooms are the reproductive structures that result from a mass of single cell thick filliments, which if they were occuring near the surface would resemble mold. Unless it is over taking the tank I wouldn't worry.

Relax and let nature take its course. Your doing more harm to the frogs by moving them around than any mold or mushroom can do. Id put the frogs back in the tank and just be patient.
