Best Beginner Frog

Could someone reccomend the best begginer frog(s)? I'm looking to add one... Preferably something that goes well in a 10-16 gallon tank. Also, how much will I be looking at for a setup? (Including tank, filters, etc --- pretty much starting from 0)

Also, it's a big plus if it'll eat silkworms, which is what I use as my staple for my herps. I don't like keepin crickets...

Best frog for a beginner? Any frog that you could get to eat really. Some frogs do better than others. I don't think tree frogs will eat silkworms, I haven't even had them eat crickets. Bullfrogs will eat just about anything that will move in front of them(that's what happened to my hamster). Pacman frogs as well will eat just about anything.

I have had many species of treefrogs, eat silkworms! My whites seem to love them, along with a couple other treefrog species I have, and my bumble bee toads etc. I don't think you would have a problem getting the majority of frog species to eat silkworms. I think it depends completely on the frog itself. As far as beginner frogs go, I would say whites treefrogs, because they are very tolerant of different conditions, eat well, and are very nice to look at, mine are also fairly active which is fun to watch. The require a temp of about 80-85, and like to be humid at around 60-70% but can also do well at a lower humidity, I however keep mine fairly humid and have had no problems. What I wouldn't recommend for beginners are frogs like pacman, pixies, or other species of bullfrogs, only because these frogs have a serious appatite and have been know to bite. They will eat anything they can get in their mouths, and are not the most active frogs to watch. I do however keep pixies and pacmans and they make very cool pets! It all depends on what you are looking for in a frog species. Also bullfrogs from north america are super active and to be fair to the animal require a lot of space!!! And in my experience the most "aggressive" frog I have seen is a bullfrog, but I love em anyway! Just my opinion!

All my frogs have a staple diet of crickets, I have never had a problem with getting any of them to eat crickets! Also when getting a frog like a pac man pixie, bullfrog etc ppl can get lazy and feed them what is most convient for them, this may be mice (I know I have a lot of mice in my freezer for my snakes) or fish etc. This is not the best idea since it causes the frog to become overweight, and can also lead to blindness. Because mice are such a "rich" prey item for the frog it can lead to fat deposits developing behind the eye eventually leading to blindness. Crickets in my opinion are the best staple for a majority of captive frog species with proper gut loading and dusting. I also feed mealworms on occasion and as already mentioned silkworms! I occasionally (I mean like 1-2 a year if at all) feed some of my frogs a pinkie!
I hope you frind a frog thats right for you!
