What am I doing wrong??

ginny23 Dec 30, 2003 07:47 PM

I have had my newest additions for a little over a month now and I have never had this much trouble with handling and taming. I try everything people suggest including leaving my hand in the tank when i feed/clean/give water and when I leave em alone for 2 days or so they get even worse. I walk in my doorway at night without so much as a step into the room and they RUN into their hide. Is it possible these two unrelated juvies arent tameable?

as leos get older they tend to calm down more, i dont know how old your geckos are but it could just be simply their age... however not every gecko can be tmes... blizzardss seem to generally be more agressive than others but any gecko morph can have a bad attitude or just be squirmy.
just keep working with them keep doing what your doing and give them time to grow up a bit

Males are also calmer than females.

i've had 2 of my geckos since baby's,they where my 1st set of gecko's.

i've had them for 5 months now, since then they both are pretty skittish and will run, hiss, and sometimes even take a snap at you.

one of them isnt so bad you can get her to sit in your hand for about 30seconds or so and they other will take off like a jet anywhere your hand is not.

my other 2 are pretty decent with one of them being very friendly, they are both over a year old.

its basicly gong to take time for them to realize there is no longer a threat to them.

hand feeding is perhaps the best you can do to show them you are a good guy and not out to eat them.

keep trying and it will pay off.

It seems to help A LOT in keeping a gecko calm during handling.
