My Oregano is FAT!!!!!

deejay17 Dec 30, 2003 08:25 PM

I just got back from vacation and went to go check on Oregano. His tank was green along with the water. As I took him and the guppies out (which he didnt eat all of them (11 of them) I noticed new guppies so I actually have more than I started with. One of the ghost shrimp is gone, 4 original guppies are gone and all of the plants are gone. I took Oregano to get washed up and scrubbed and as I was doing it I noticed he is F.A.T. (Fat A** Turtle). He tried to tuck his little head in his shell and skin and flab came pouring out. How can this be? I was gone 12 days and he didnt eat all of his feeders, but he is a porker. What do I do now? Should I remove all the guppies, do I feed him any pellets, do I do a stricted veggie diet? Oh yeah, I found a UVB light in Ohio and it says it is for basking and heat...is that true? I went ahead and replaced my basking bulb with it. Plus I have a night bulb for him too. I thought I would just check the themomater everyday to make sure the water isn't getting too cold. Sorry so long. Thanks
Deejay

I have heard that if you put on a strict veggie diet for two weeks they will drop the weight. Sounds kinda I know. Is the light you got a mercury bulb? I know mercury bulbs can be UVB and heat as well. Do you thermometer to see if the basking is around 90 degrees? I hope you had a good vacation. Take care Shannon

All the packaging says is Super UV Coil-Lamp, ideal for basking reptiles, optimal amounts of UVB and UVA, 20 Watts = 75 Watts, has emissions in the UVA wavelengths from 320nm to 400nm. That is about it.

Does it give off a lot heat? When I messing with Red's tank I sometimes have to turn off the basking light cuz I feel like I cooking my arms. Shannon

I look on Oregano today and he is now a floating flesh dangler. He is shedding for the first time that I know of. Could this be because he is so F.A.T.? I was just wondering. It kind of looks like a wedding gown torn to shreds (at least the vail). Should I continue to feed him his hatchling pellets, now that I am at home? Or should I let him be and make him go for the guppies? Have a great holiday and BE SAFE.
