Pothos cleaning

geckguy Dec 30, 2003 08:35 PM

I just bought some pothos from home depot because I use cuttings in my froglet shoeboxes, my question is how to clean it before I use it in my shoeboxes? Should I repot it w/no fertilizers and wash it throughly before I plant it?

take all of the soil off the plant and wash it really good then just put the plant in the substrate of the tank near the water feature or replant it

I would recommend making cuttings of the pothos. As they are very easy just look for like the brownish root thingy that are popping out, cut below is and just pop it in, soon, something white would pop up, and it would grow rapidly. Sorry, for not knowing the specific wordings for all this things. I was never good in biology and horticulture =D. But when you put the cuttings in the vivarium, they grow very rapdily. I put several cutting into the tank, and now I have to trim it just because it grows so much.

I put cuttings in my shoeboxes but I need more and the plant I had got eaten by something so I bought some more pothos and I am worried about the fertilizer on the plant because it is new.

Just wash off the leaves and you will be fine. Dont put any of the soil that came with the plant in your setups though. Just stick cuttings in the soil of your tanks. Personaly I would never use Pothos anyway. Its way to hard to control once its rooted.

I had that problem w/pothos in a redeye tank thats why I don't use it in tanks just froglet rearing shoeboxes with a paper towel substrate. It gives them really good cover and lasts a long time, and most of the time it starts growing. In the rest of my tanks I use bromeliads only because they don't take over the tanks.
