Spreading of Black coloration update

bencham Dec 30, 2003 09:03 PM

yes, i went skiing for the day, got back around 6 and my veiled was sleeping... i turned on the light and saw that on both sides of his middle "side" the black coloration (bruises?) were spreading towards his stomach....

i have no idea what it is, he has acted fine and is eating well hydrated.

any ideas, suggestions, and help much appreciated!

thx

I'd take him & a stool sample to a vet as soon as possible. I've been breeding veiled for over 3 yrs and this just doesn't sound right. If your vet doesn't find anything wrong ,then you can rest easy knowing that your pet is all right.I know this ain't much help, but you wanted suggestions. I suggest you take it to a vet.

If these black areas are visibly spreading and they don't disappear when he changes colors I think there IS a problem. This is not normal and your vet may not have a clue what to look for. Did the vet take any scrapings or samples of the black area? Also, many fungi will glow in a black light. Many vets have a lamp that will show these fungi. Ask about it. I'd shop around for another opinion myself. There are necrotic skin diseases in chams that can do a lot of damage, but unless a vet has seen lots of chams they may not recognize them.

well, again, this is very strange and his colors seem to be changing overnight..

this morning i checked him out and noticed that the black coloration other than two pronounced spots on each side had subsided....

he has no reaction to me touching the black spots as well so me or the vet have no clue what the problem is...

i did have the vet take samples of the black skin area and the test results are not back yet... still waiting

thx for the help carlton
