I own a 6' Burmese and a young Savannah Monitor and I've always loved the Green Tree Pythons. Unfortunately I dont have $350 to spend on one, but I really would like to get one. Is there anywhere I can find one for cheaper? Thanks

Also if you did spend less you'd probley be getting what you paid for. I both burmese pythons and savanna monitors are very easy animals to take care of, other then they do get a fair size. Green trees depend alot. They often can be picky eaters, they can be agressive, they stress easy, they are more look at dont touch animal, they need a well thought out caging unit. And also if you dont have the money to buy the snake itself how are you going to pay for its cage, supplies, food and oher things. So mayeb you should save yup your money for awhile. Definatly do ALOT of reading and before you try out a green tree try something similar but more simple and cheaper like a jungle or irian jaya carpet or maybe an amazon tree boa.

Well good luck

I was also wondering if anyone else gets sick of hearing "the speech". I'm refering to the speech everyone always gives about knowing what your getting into and reading stuff on them. BLAH BLAH BLAH. I know what i'm doing, I was just wondering if anyone knew of any cheaper ones that I could get, plus i'm not looking for a million dollar snake to breed, I want it as a pet to love and care for. I also have more tanks and supplies around here then i know what to do with. So thanks for "the speech" again put you were no help.

hey snakefanatic...thats great!!..haha,,im also sick of hearin that speach...yea some reptiles are harder to keep than others, but the idea of buying a trea boa to practice on untill you get good enough to own a GTP is insane...what the hell are these people thinking??...you get a cage, make sure the temp/humidity is right(everyone learned how to read a thermo/ in grade school)feed the snake its required food..ect..follow a few other simple instructions and youre there..yes there are a few small problems that you may run into but as long as you know how to read and ask questions you and the snake will be fine..regardless of the breed..some of these people will have you think they are the only person in the world that can keep a reptile alive for any extended amount of time..ill tell you what..the real skill is in the breeding..and its not just any breeding..its being the first to captive breed a given species..one that has never been bred in captivity before...do that and then you can warn people about what they are getting into..oh yea..and as far as your question...ben siegal reptiles is selling hatchlings for $250.00..this is the best price i have ever seen..and dont let these people tell you that paying that kind of price will guarantee a crappy bloodline,GTP'S have not been captive breed long enough to ensure any type of stable, predictable, thoroughbred type of animals...this takes hundreds of years of domestic breeding...the best you can hope for is some kind of predictability when it comes to color, and even this has been proven to depend on many factors other than genetics.(enviornment,diet).my point is,these people selling these animals for 2000 and up are only playing to the suckers, their animals differ little if not at all from an animal brought over from indonesia today!..with the exception of maybe a less chance of parasites...oh yea and the $250.00 animals from ben siegal are captive bred as well(clean as a whistle)...good luck!

Hey man you just made my day. I am so tired of hearing how everyone on here is a "PRO" and no one else in this world should have a snake. I've just always loved Green Tree Pythons, i'm not looking for that 2000 snake to breed, unlike most of you, i do it because I love the snakes, not the money. So don't tell me that I dont know what i'm doing just because i dont want to pay a million dollars for a snake. Also were you born with the knowledge you have today? I dont think so, get over yourselves and try to help people out instead of trying to be such a tough guy and discourage people. People are going to get snakes and people are going to decide they dont want them, the best thing you can do is to help them out along the way. Thanks for telling me where I can get GREAT Tree Pythons for "cheap" (not quality of snake)!!! THANKS!!!

I failed to see where the $250 chondros are CAPTIVE BRED. Maybe I'm missing something. How many chondros do you own? Believe it or not, there are CB lines of chondros that have been going for nearly 30 years. Have fun.

Brandon, All I have to say is THAT is ONE GORGEOUS GTP and I am sure there are gonna be fistfulls of dollars chasing its offspring!!!!!!when will it be bred? norm

Brandon Osborne Dec 31, 2003 06:13 PM

Thanks Norm,

that is a male that I produced 3 years ago. I have several keepers from that first clutch from the Sedgewick Zoo/Steinhardt Aquarium pairing. Here's a pic of one of his sisters from the same clutch. I have a few animals from the last clutch that are looking very nice at a little over 9 months old. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

thanks

Quite honestly, I thought Justin's suggestions and comments were quite polight and helpful - too bad they were wasted on blind eyes / ungrateful know-it-alls. This is not to say that you should or shouldn't spend $350...$250...less or more! Designer Chondros are not for everyone...nor are $250 Chondros. Is one better than the other? Sometimes...maybe sometimes not. But speaking as someone who DID pioneer the husbandry and breeding or Chondros almost 30 years ago...and who has been actively working to develop Designer (and other) bloodines ever since - I would suggest only this... Know who you are buying from (good common sense for any critter), and check out in advance what kind of after sales service / support you are likely to get...! This is not to say "look for a warrenty"...I'm talking about someone who is by reputation most likely to help you out JUST IN CASE you run into some problem with your animal. I have found that many of thre folks who are likely to sell you a $250 Chondro will blow you off with your questions or concerns. Meanwhile...those of us who might sell some of our special babies for $2K on up to those people who appreciate what it is we have to offer...we will likely be in the wings to help you out when you DO get blown off by unreputable or unknowledgeable sellers...even though we may not have made a sale to you. Just think about that before you go blowing a guy like Justin out of the water next time...or before you make your first Chondro purchase...!...TW
