Iguana's during winter.

RedAlkiestarte Dec 30, 2003 10:30 PM

I have a 5 year old female iguana. Right now she doesnt really eat much or go to the bathroom all that much. She is very active, she is kind of restless. I have had her for a month now and she seems to eat only a little bit of food and poop every other day. She gets proper temps and proper UVB (I am not a newbie to herps, just kinda new to iguanas, I have a baby who is probably 6 months old, I was always more into Uromastyx and geckos, not igs) Now I know she laid 2 clutches of eggs in her life, I just want to know if the season is now. She seems to be turning more bronze/orange. When I got her just her forearms and thighs were bronze, now her feet hands and tail are, and she is getting some on her sides. She is very active and loves to roam around the room she is in, she is very active.
Think its time?

From what you are describing I would say that it is probably breeding season for her. Your best bet would be a vet visit where they can feel for eggs. You may want to look at the egging info on MK's site. It will help you prepare for the fun event.

Another thing is many igs tend to cut back on eatting in winter. I know all mine here have done that.

I recommend getting her to a vet ASAP, to get an Xray of her. You may have to build her a nesting box. Look at the site www.anaspid.org, for gravid iguanas. Let us know how it turns out! Good luck!
