I picked up a copy of over the holidays and I thought it was worth mentioning to all chelonian lovers how much I appreciate this book.
The book begins with a nice discussion of turtle husbandry from obtaining/quarantine on through captive breeding.
It then proceeds through individual species accounts with beautiful pictures of each species discussed as well as mentioning what the current status of that species is as far as captive reproduction is concerned. What is also very nice is that a list of references is given after each species providing a nice starting point for anyone who wishes to delve into a specific animal.
The book finishes with a discussion of shipping, incubation techniques, CITES and the Endangered Species Act as it pertains to turtles.
In the end, I think this is an excellent reference and well worth its price of purchase. I have picked up other books in the past that might deal with certain aspects of husbandry as well as this one, but overall this is one of the best general chelonian texts in my collection. I don't know if Russ is working on the tortoise compliment to this book but I hope so.
