New to probing

gregz Dec 31, 2003 07:32 AM

I am new to probing. I was learning from a friend of mine that has now moved When I probed this snake it probed to a scale count of 6 from what I read females probe less and males usually probe 8 or more. So now all I have done is confuse myself. ( it weighed 1503 gr. this morning)and is a lot bigger than my males. So I guess my question is do I have a big male or a female that just has a big cookie jar. ooops can I say cookie jar on here? Any help would be great. and the pic is from this morning.
Thank you in advance,
Gregz

Sometimes you need to probe more than once, just to be sure. If it probes again at 6 scales, it's a female. If your planning on breeding or are breeding right now, you need to be very careful about the gel you use on the probe. Most of the over the counter stuff is a spermicide.

thanks the lube I use is Surgilube. It contains chlorhexdine gluconate. I don't know what that is but I got the lube when I bought my probe set. Do I have the right stuff?
thanks again
Gregz
