At what age/size would a female begin laying? I just want to know when I should start really watching to pull her out and let her lay.

For sliders I'd say six to seven inches as the minimum. I don't have much experience with breeding, but I've never received one with eggs that was smaller than seven inches. You can usually palpate to see if eggs are present. Plus, they start doing this odd "shuffle dance" with thier hind legs while in the water. That's usually my first clue that they're gravid.
