These prices good for sterilite containers?

Amanda E Dec 31, 2003 09:20 AM

I was planning on buying Rubbermaid boxes, but I found some Sterilite boxes at a local store.

The shoeboxes are $1, the sweater boxes are $2.50 and the blanket boxes are $4.

I'm assuming these are good prices, but I don't know.

Can someone fill me in.

I want to know if I should go back and clean out the store or if this is the basic price for them.

Yes it is a very good price if the containers are worth it. I personally like the ones that have the latches that lock the top on instead of the ones that just snap down. Also look for the type of plastic that I can use my awl to punch holes in and it won't crack the entire box (been there done that, pissed me off). So if you think they are worth it to you and assuming you're using them for snake containers, go ahead and stock up. Oh and remember that you can't use lamps or UTH's on plastic because it will melt, but human heating pads work really great with them.

Just don't forget, that the more enclosures/containers you have that can hold snakes, the more you will get (that's what happened to me )

Actually, that's what I'm hoping for.

I'm getting 2 new corn snakes in about a month and this spring I hope to breed at least one pair of cornsnakes.

That's the usual Sale price at our local Target stores here in So. Cal. That's as good a deal as your likely to find, they don't get any cheaper. I use the sweater and blanket boxes, no problem. The racks I use hold 1 blanket or 2 sweater boxes per shelf. I also use the shoe box size with the tops for hatchlings. I do add a strong rubber band to these to keep them secure. Hatchlings can get out through some very small openings or get stuck half way out and die. That's why I always use the rubber bands on the shoe boxes. Another suggestion is to buy extra. I have two full sets, purchased when they were on sale. I can swap out each box with a clean one and do all my cleaning at one time.

Do you still use rubberbands around shoeboxes in a rack system?

This seems excessive. The tops of the shelves should hold the lid on tight enough.

Or did I misunderstand you and you don't use the shoeboxes in a rack?

That's what most of my boxes are. They replaced RubberMade at the local K-Mart.
The prices are good.
I think John may have the same situation that I do.
My "rack" isn't really made to exact dimensions for the boxes.
I am not sure about his but mine is basically a converted book shelf.
When I used the Sterilite shoe boxes there was about an inch from the top of them to the shelf above so I used a rubberband also. Works well.
Hopefully when things get going properly I will have a specific "herp" room and have a true rack system as well as several display tanks. One can dream
Rigth now I have snakes in three different rooms.

Binder clips also work really well. I am converting all my rubberbands to binder clips because they wear out less.
