Happy New Year (and Eve),
Just curious, perhaps this has been posted before but what is the likelihood that differnet aquatic turtle species can hybridize succesfully? I know the practice may be somewhat taboo among snake owners (they had a big debate over it in one Reptiles Magazine issue) but is there a market for hybrid turtles? And not just within same genuses, I am referring to map turtles x painteds, painteds x sliders, diamondbacks x chicken turtles, etc. Can their gametes possibly produce a viable zygote?
My male eastern painted has been wooing a red-ear slider for quite some time now, and even managed to hook tails once (I separated them). But then again, he vibrates his claws as well when i show him staplers, holepunchers, scissors, glue, etc.
