Has anyone been succesful in breeding crickets?

owen13 Dec 31, 2003 06:59 PM

I want some tips on how to do this. I realized I could be spending hundreds on food for my geckos. Last time I tried to start a cricket colony I bought 1000 and all but 30 died or were eaten, then those 30 were eaten. So does anyone have some tips or tricks to get them to lay eggs?

Hey There

You will probably find better answers than this but it worked for me a kept the crickets about 86 degrees so they would grow quick and only used about 40 i just put them on a moist mix of spagnumpeat moss and potting soil and feed them dog food carrots and potatoes i kept the food on a paper plate to prevent molding well the full grown crickets died about 3 weeks later and the bedding sat and a few weeks after there were thousands of lil crickets well here comes that hard part i raised the temp to like 88 if you keep them at like 74 degrees they never grow and i feed em at that hot temp and after a while they started to grow boom done you may want to keep more females than males for you breeding colony you can tell by the three things that stick out at the back of the cricket the females have a really long egg layer that stickout in the middle the males is much sorter.
