First, the common name of this snake is the Red-headed Rat Snake, and the scientific name is spelled "Elaphe moellendorffi."
I have never kept one, but Staszko & Walls report in their book "Rat Snakes, A Hobbyist's Guide to Elaphe and Kin" that these are not easy snakes to keep because unlike most rat snakes, they need to be kept between 65 - 70 F. That may not be a problem for you in the winter but that range might be hard to maintain in the summer. You feed them mice like most rat snakes. If these are going to be your first Rat Snakes, you might want to start with something easier like a corn snake [Elaphe guttata guttata].
Best of luck,
Rick
