It may not be 49 ft but if you see this video, you sure can't diss its size. Still no good full body shot with a size reference but the video well worth seeing. What an incredible beast.!

. This story has now been reported in several sources and not one of the reporters has had the sense to ask for proof about the snake's length. The way the snake is being handled it should be very easy to use a flexible measuring tape or a rope to measure it. It would be difficult to get an exact measurement but easy to measure with accuracy to within a foot of the actual length. It is a very big snake but any person with half a brain should be able to see that it is well short of 49 feet.

Been wondering the same. I just wish somebody would at least measure it so we can quit wondering! Why hasn't anyone confirmed it yet?

If someone measures it they wont have a story anymore. If the title said 25 ft retic no one would really care. Craig Kade

Yeah, I know. It's just so aggravating. We all seem to agree it's not 49 ft, but you keep reading and hearing the media say it is. That and it's a popular topic on most forums. I keep reading all the posts hoping to finally see that someone read/heard somewhere that the hoax has been outed. So many non-herp loving people I know keep coming to me "did you hear..." and I'm tired of trying to explain that they've probably been dupped. Ugh!

Craigs correct. (I Think) If this story were true, don't you think every herpetologist, biologist and all others would have been over there a week ago or ASAP. It is a very impressive animal!!!! but till its at a major zoo in Europe or the U.S. I'm more than skeptical. No, I dont think there is a 50 footer over there-- large but come on. R.W.

Not only that but I'd think that the Guiness Book people would be all over it.
