OT: Anyone here have a Sun Conure?

Heather Jan 01, 2004 08:33 AM

I met one at a pet shop today. It was the first bird that seemed to like me.... Usually birds just try to bite me... I've always wanted a bird and I was wondering if Sun Conures are a good beginner Bird (seeing as how I've never even had a budgie before..)... What's the avaerage price for one? Can someone reccomend a good site to learn about them?? Thanks!!!

Although this is the Iguana-not the bird forum, Your in luck as I have had Sun Conures in the past.

A most beautiful bird BUT... I hope others in your household share your passion or you can tolerate A LOT of noise.

Conures are VERY NOISY birds in general and Suns are notoriously louder. Other than that, I highly recommend them.

I haven't followed the market recently but I would exspect the going rate to be $300-500.

If it were me, I would go to a wholesale breeder, and purchase a baby and hand-rear it personally. Not only with she/he become your specially bonded pet to you but there is nothing more gratifying than raising your own baby bird. It is somewhat involving. It it is difficult, You can jump in with a slightly older bird when the feeding are reduced to twice a day.

Good luck!

Sincerely,
Brian
