** Important - virus info

phwyvern Jan 01, 2004 10:45 AM

Folks,

There seems to be a possible virus of some kind going around that seems to have started up a couple of days ago (on/about Dec. 28). Several members from various forums have apparently been infected (how or why is unknown at this time). This virus appears to be posting various links to a particular porn website in their messages on the forums without their knowledge.

Please if anyone sees any such posts with an active hyperlink at the bottom of someone's message that just says 'Link', REPORT those messages ASAP via the 'abuse report' button located by the author's name so that we can check those messages and if they turn out to be the porn site ones then get those messages cleaned up and inform the individuals of their situation.

I do not know the method through which these people have become infected so I would suggest it may NOT be a good idea to actually click on the links and confirm that they do indeed go to these porn sites. For the time being it's just in everyone's best interest to simply report any post you find that contains an active hyperlink and the text only says 'Link' and let us do the checking.

Thank you.

most browsers will allow you to read the url if you just "hover" over the link.

if you can discern the url and guess at its contensst this would prevent users from having to click on the links.
