YAAY! Got my first blood!!

Blue_Fox Jan 01, 2004 10:59 AM

... Don't have much more to add. He's still in his adjustment phase, so we haven't had too much interaction yet.

An especially huge thanks to Kara at NERD for being so nice to the two misfit teens that came to pick him up

Thank you Kara!!!

Glad to know you're enjoying your new baby so much!!! Make sure you stop in for a visit before you move out of town, and let me know if you need styro boxes to make the trip for your animals safer & more comfy - I have a TON!

Happy New Year, too!!!!

They are amazing python and a joy to work with if you know what you are doing. Give it a bit of time to settle in and then start handling it. Good luck

Hey,
Congrats on your first blood, they are quite amazing animals to work with for sure and you'll soon see why. All the best to you and your latest acquisition.

Well.........

He's doing pretty well, though it may be awhile before I'm able to get some pics (he still doesn't seem to like me very much :P). He's an absolutely gorgeous snake -- a Borneo x Yellow blood cross, actually -- so I can't wait to show you all what he looks like.

He had a pretty big change, going from the safe little tiny container at NERD to the 20 gallon modified aquarium I was so proud of... All in all he seems to be doing pretty well; about half the time when I do something in his cage (cleaning, etc) he just seems curious, and half the time he ABSOLUTELY FREAKS OUT.

I did modify his hide spots a bit to make them a bit smaller, so I think that may help him feel a bit better about his enclosure. (Right now his favorite hidespot is still under the substrate, which annoyed be since I spent so much time making his hides in the first place. Go figure.) He didn't eat the mouse I gave him, but that was relatively soon after he got home so I'm not too worried. I'm going to give him quite a bit more adjusting time before I try feeding him again, and even more before I start trying to acclimate him to handling.

All in all, I think he and I are doing pretty well, though if anyone thinks I've made any glaring errors (I sure hope not; I've spent so much time researching bloods) PLEASE let me know!!

Thanks to anyone who bothered to take the time to read this, and thanks for everyone's kindness and support.

Fox,

You seem to be doing pretty good, but I would try keeping him in a small rubbermaid until he seems to get accustom to his surroundings (atleast a few more months) and he seems ready for a larger container that is harder to keep humid. I know rubbermaids dont look good and you cant really show him to your friends and stuff but it really is better for the snake and easier for you. If you really want a tank maybee try a 10g with a piece of plexiglass on top and poke a few holes in it. If you need some help or tips with anything feel free to hit me up with an email man jordanm@uga.edu

Yeah, I think I may try putting him in a setup like Kara reccommended for the snake in the 40 gallon in an above post. I haven't had any problems keeping the humidity up (the tank is flipped on its side, with little sliding plexiglas doors, so evaporation isn't a problem), and the tank is insulated on all sides except for the doors, but I'm sure he'd feel better in a little container nonetheless.

Thanks for the help; I can't wait until he calms down and I can snap some pics of him!!
