Just yesterday, I begged the owner of a local pet shop
to give me three out of four of his geckos (the fourth
was still doing ok)... you should see these guys that
I brought home... I have two tinier ones and one
gecko that looks to be a young adult - but is so emaciated that it's hard to tell.
So, I have them set up, in a peaceful, low stress
place... and I am just wondering exactly what the
rehabilitation process is. I was reading an article
on Gecko Network that talked about the use of Pedialyte and Ensure to restore hydration - then after a period of 3-4 weeks, the introduction of blended crickets/ensure/mealworms, etc...
So, what quantities am I looking at? What ratio of Pedialyte to Ensure? How often - how do I know if they've had enough, etc?
I will be taking these three to the vet tomorrow (I imagine that they have been through undue stress in addition to having an internal parasite of some sort). In
the meantime, I have been giving them a few cc's of
this Emergency Reptile stuff (specifically formulated
for insectivores) - and my really emaciated one
latches on the to syringe and won't let go... seems
to me to be a good sign.
I already have five adult geckos, and somewhat
rehabilitated them - I thought they were in bad shape
when I bought them, but they were just fine in
comparison to these little guys I took home. I mention this becuase I am very familiar with my adults and proper care for them in general... just haven't had to "bottle" feed a little one before.
Anyway, if you wouldn't mind sharing whatever
information you can with me, I would so greatly
appreciate it - articles, web sites, personl experience, etc.
I'll do whatever it takes to give these guys a chance.
Thanks,
Dacia
