Goblet, my baby pixie is getting quite FAT

eve Jan 01, 2004 02:12 PM

About how much should these babies eat?
Hes about 1 1/2 inchs long but very wide now. He seems to have an ENORMOUS appetite.

I dont want to over due it, because it seems whatever I drop in
gets zapped in seconds. Thanks,

Eve

Mine is getting ~5 small crickets per day. Sometimes more come out when I feed and he has gotten as many as 10. If he gets an unusually large amount in a day, I'll usually skip feeding the next day or only give him 2-3.

eating also, and he has downed with the greatest of ease superworms too, I pick out some of the smaller ones for him, and they are gone as soon as they hit bottom.

It will certainly be interesting to see these guys eat, when they are 6 inches and more, if male.

Thanks again, appreciate you sharing

Many frogs have voracious appetites because nature programmed them to eat a lot--not knowing when the next meal is. Too fat is no good.

PAC mans, for example, WILL EAT UNTIL THEY DIE if you let them. Yes, literally eat so much to burst their stomache. They have no sense of being "full".

My bullfrog eats a lot, but I just give a few crickets a day since it became an adult. Maybe 3 one day then 1 the next. then back to three the next day.

Since your pixie is growing naturally it will want to eat a lot use your own judgement-if it looks too obese cut back on the feedings. Maybe feed it half what you been doing.

Should I be concerned about this Jade? He is 2" long and 2" wide. Seems to be really healthy. Ill toss in a bunch of crickets and if he hasnt eaten in a while he will jump on them. He usually doesnt eat all the crickets in one sitting and leaves a few in the tank for later (2 - 3 days) until he gets hungry again. Is that not normal?
