How much soil takes for an impaction?

CokeOfMan Jan 01, 2004 02:54 PM

Just wondering...My frog swallowed some soil today, the cricet escaped the tonge and he managed to eat some soil. I didn't see it but, when he opened his mouth I saw black..he only opend it a bit though. I'm worried, probably for nothing, but still.

I don't think the small amount grabbed when eating a cricket will hurt.

I watch my baby bullfrog grab sphagnum moss when trying to nail a bug, and see him also take it out with his front foot. They are pretty good with their feet.

Post a pic of your guy,

If it is just soil, it will probably just pass. I'd worry more if it were rocks or gravel. Watch for signs of straining, and get the frog to a vet if there appear to be problems. I'd also put in a small dinner plate when feeding, and put food on that to prevent further swallowing dirt.
