Pics of my new Malagasy Blonde !!!

Lyn Jan 01, 2004 05:12 PM

Thanks for the replies encouraging me not to be discouraged by the decscription of these snakes that I read online. I am totally captivated by this little guy. I picked him up today from my local pet store. They bought him about 2 years ago from Xtreme Reptiles, so he's probably between two and three years old. I don't know if he's CB or WC. He looks small for his age, are these guys normally slow growing? He's eating f/t fuzzies. We thought he could maybe take a hopper, but when we held up the ones they had it was obviously too big. We picked the biggest fuzzy we could find and it seemed a good size for him. He was a bit touchy when being removed from his enclosure at the store, but very docile once he's out. I have not tried taking him out of his new home yet. Figured I'd let him settle in a bit. I did take some pics before putting him into the new enclosure. His name is "Wilbur".

Should I be concerned about his size? I measured him (as best as I could) and he's over a foot but less than a foot and a half.

Just look at those great big eyes and wonderful smile!

He's not completely solid colored, he has flecks of light and dark tan and even a hint of light blue when you look at him from the right angle.

Here is a closer shot...

Here is his first glimpse of his new home...

I hope he will be happy here!

He went under the plant for a while. I left him alone and when I went to check on him later he'd come out from under the plant and there was a tunnel in the aspen leading under his cork bark hide. I peeked under the hide (through the glass, didn't actually pick up the hide) and there he was, completely under the aspen except for his little face poking out. I'm really happy with this little guy. Can't wait for him to settle in so I can handle him some more and get better pics.

I'd love to see pics of other Malagasy Hogs and hear any stories about them, or anything you think I should know about them. Thanks for looking at my pics!

I wanted to see more photos of Hognose Snakes and tried looking in the Kingsnake.com Photo Gallery but could not find a Hognose Section. I found some pics under the generic Snake section, but they are mixed in with so many other pics. Have you asked for a page? I don't know how to ask but will do so if I can figure it out. It seems you have a lot of great pics and it's a shame not to have a special section for them. I've enjoyed looking through the pics everyone has posted here, and the ones I was able to find in the generic album.

Yeah. There is no real gallery just for hognoses. Do a search for hognose and you should find some. Or you might find a couple by clicking venomous, rear-fanged and searching through there.
Nice looking hognose. I'm starting to think about getting a blond hog in the future.
